If a room in your home feels outdated or no longer serves you, I have a few easy suggestions that will help the space feel refreshed. The best part? 01 | clean + organize

If the idea of cleaning or organizing an entire area makes you shudder (Home office! Playroom! Craft closet! Oh my!), consider breaking the big chore into short, 10- to 15-minute tasks and commit to doing at least one task a day. It’s amazing how relieved you’ll feel when you can one day walk into that space and see your possessions clean and organized. It really can do wonders to your feelings of satisfaction and pride with your home.

02 | open the windows

Some people may already be in the habit of opening window coverings to start the day, but if you usually don’t, try it out for a week to see how it feels! I find there is something just so magical about letting the light shine in as a way to start fresh each morning. When it’s nice weather out, I love to leave the windows open so we can hear the sounds of nature and get a nice breeze moving through the house.

03 | move things around

One of my favorite ways to liven up a space without spending any money is simply to move things around! Not a week goes by that I don’t swap out decor from my office bookshelf to my side table, and then to my coffee table or entryway. And reimagining the function of a room by shifting around the furniture is a great way to give certain pieces their day in the spotlight! During the winter, maybe your furniture shifts to have the fireplace be the focal point, and then during the summer, the accent chairs get angled around for the best views of the valley! Try a few variations to see which feels best and most functional for your family, or change it up every few months to continually reinvigorate the space.

04 | bring in nature

One of the absolute fastest ways to bring new life to a space is to literally bring in life — nature! Bring in a live plant or some fresh clippings from the yard to add a bit of the living world to spaces that feel dull and lifeless. Greenery is also one of my favorite ways, in general, to make a space feel more classic and timeless, too.

A home is more than just a shelter. It uplifts us emotionally and spiritually.
