Our Best Tips for Spring Sprucing (Yes, it’s Different Than Spring Cleaning!)

Now that spring is finally in full swing, it’s time to get your house in order!

We KNOW that living in Northern Utah means spring doesn’t really start until April, but every year we get so excited for those longer days and green mountains we love so much.

But it's May now and we're officially in the thick of our spring! Yay! We made it past the cold months and now we get to enjoy every beautiful thing that comes with Utah spring weather.

Spring is our FAVORITE time of year here at Liz Powell because it's the time of year you get to freshen up your living space and bring your home back to life from its winter hibernation. We refer to this magical time of year as the "Spring Spruce" and we could not be more excited that it's here!

So, are you ready to "Spring Spruce" with us?

Indoor Spring Sprucing

Let’s start indoors with your kitchen, family room, and bathrooms. Hopefully, you took our advice from last month and got your house organized and de-junked so now you can focus on sprucing it up! If you haven't gotten your house prepped we suggest you do a spring clean first and get it in beautiful shape so it is ready for a refresh!

Kitchen + bathroom

We love sprucing up kitchens and bathrooms for spring with a deliciously scented hand soap so you too can smell like all of the gorgeous flowers this season brings! Yummy, right? Next, add a new set of hand towels that are adorned with bright spring colors and designs and just scream SPRING! Once that’s in place, a fresh new rug that compliments the new hand towels will add the light and bright your home is craving. Finally, add some beautiful greenery to lighten up your bathroom and kitchen space and help it feel fresh, vibrant, and new.

Family room

Once your kitchen and bathroom are in tip-top spring shape, move on to your family room. Let’s start by refreshing the coffee table with spring decor. Add some greenery, flowers, natural wood accents, and a book or two about gardening. Change out your throw pillow covers for ones with bright spring colors and get a lighter muslin throw blanket that won't be too hot for the warmer weather. Then find your favorite spring-scented candle to fill your house with a magical aroma.

BUT WAIT, you're not done! Time to move this spruce outdoors!

Outdoor Spring Spruce

We love to decorate the outside of our homes as much as we love to decorate the inside. The outside of your house, especially the porch, is the first impression people will have of your home, so let's make it a good one!

First, get a new rug for your front door. We love to layer a patterned rug under a classic porch rug with a welcoming message. Make sure your patterned rug is the same width as your entire door frame, with the top rug measuring the same size as your door. Get some beautiful containers and add some beautiful fresh flowers and/or plants. Though, we don't recommend putting real plants out until after Mother's Day as a rule of thumb for temperature reasons. Now add some cute new spring pillows to your porch bench if you have one and...voila! You have the perfect spring-spruced porch!

We hope we got you as excited as we are and feeling ready to get your house in tip-top spring shape to help welcome the sunshine, flowers, and warm weather! Happy sprucing!

With love, Liz
